Any chance the Hawks move up to take Jason Robertson or Isaac Ratcliffe early in the second?

Im becoming more & more comfortable with the idea of E. Kane in the Indian Head. 2 big power forwards for Kane and Toews to play with. I see lots of open ice |

Thanks John - I'm especially glad you mentioned how Hammer is STILL a battler. Saw lots of comments about how he's taken too many blocked shots and his body is wearing down. I'm not in that camp - Hammer still has a lot of tread left on the tire and he will be missed. I understand why he was dealt - but let's not fool ourselves in thinking that we got rid of a declining asset.
Thanks for all that you did #4. |

AA to MTL for Danault and a pick? Use the cap savings to sign Joe Thornton? |

Saad- Columbus trade
When you add it up Hawks Traded Panarin for Anisimov and Saad
Good return for Stan in my books.
JJ-Good write up and yes- time will tell with Murphy.
What's your take on the Q no show yesterday? |

MTL needs centers, and I doubt they trade a young center and replace him with another. Not saying it can't or will not happen...
But to your point, I think we see AA gone and Schmaltz is your 2C, potentially. Adding another top/middle 6 guy will really put this team at another compete level. Once Kruger is gone, around and after July 1, look for bottom 6 guys with size and tenacity.
I love the Saad trade. He fits the team like a glove. REALLY interested to see what Dauphin, Murphy, Forsberg can bring. |

If we the fans can rationalize, at least some of us, why the Hawks made these moves I highly doubt Q lost his mind and stormed out in disgust of losing 4 and 72 |

Mornin' JJ et all..
well Q is there this morning...but NHL network had Freidmann on and he pointed out that Q wasn't there last night.
Meanwhile more moves to make this team didn't necessarily get better yesterday - lots of work to.
Loved Hammer hated seeing him moved wonder if he's back here in two seasons.
Anisimov on the move today? We'll see what happens... |

Said a few days for moving Panarin would.be a value for value trade and that's exactly what it was. Super high end talent for very high end talent that is very good at a lot of stuff.
Probably a good deal for both teams.
The Arizona one is interesting. Probably looking for some leadership there with the younger players. Again, good value went both ways and I think both teams got what they think they needed.
Hoping for one more splash today. |

It's an even better transaction when you consider Panarin was plucked from the KHL as a free agent. No draft pick used, no time spent in development. Pretty shrewd. |

On E.Kane to Tuke17, can the team weather the BS which comes with this kid? Wonder if Chevy would shed some light on this from E.Kane's days in The PEG. |

Yes, however, the knock on Montreal is that they lack size upfront. So, from that perspective, a player like AA could be attractive - even in a center-for-center trade. |

I don't agree, thought the Schenn trade sucked for them. No way you can say over the last 12 months the Blows got better |

Exactly. Glad JJ mentioned it. This whole line of Hammer on a big decline is delusional. The 'Hawks sold high for a player six years younger and three more years under contract. |

Hammy is 30 and has played big time hard minutes over 623 regular-season games and another 128 playoff games.
1,155 shots since the 2009-10 season. Only five other players have blocked as many in that span.
And his play dropped off the last 2 years; a stud dman and great guy
Again the hawks get 5 years of cost control with Murphy; 6 years younger.
is it a 1:1 in terms of experience and performance...of course not; but the hawks needed to get younger and take the risk that a guy like this develops to the next level |

First, thank you JJ for the time you spend writing these well written blogs. Love reading them and the responses they generate.
I would like to believe a year from now we will be discussing how much Stan won these trades yesterday. Saad and Panarin will equal each other out when comparing overall value. If the other three Murphy, Dauphin, Forsberg all develop more this year then these will be looked at as good trades by Stan.
I dont think the drama that E. Kane brings with him would be good for Chicago, I would rather see Neal on the left wing of Kane. |

I'd rather sign Vanek than have either of them. |
